Keeping Your Skin Alive... (part 1)

Hey Ladies! So I am sure you always hear of women talk about facial scrubs, masks, etc. Or you have been to makeup counters where they try to get you to buy one to add to your skin care regimen. How many of you actually buy them? Not many, I know! But honestly, exfoliating your skin really should become a part of your beauty regimen...even if it is only ONCE a week! Come on, you mean to tell me on Sunday night you can't rejuvenate your face for the week and get rid of all that liquor and smoked stain skin you acquired while out partying Saturday night?!?!? (We have ALL been there, don't be ashamed now!)

Benefits of exfoliating: cleanses the skin, gets rid of dead skin (this will help if you have acne scars), unclogs pores which will help in the prevention of acne, leaves your skin smooth and soft, and will rejuvenate your skin and give you a great glow.  Dermatologists and other skin care professionals will also tell you the importance of exfoliating your skin if you don't believe me.  Also, please please please do not use a body scrub for your face!

Now remember, when going out to find the perfect scrub for you, consider what type of skin type you have. Think about it, are you OILY, DRY, COMBINATION, or do you have over all SENSITIVE skin???? ( I will do a mini post on how to figure out which one you are.)
Secondly, what is your budget? You don't have to buy one that is from a department store to get great results if it is not within your budget. Things can be costly but it doesn't mean that you can't still get "wine" results on a "beer" budget. Look in your kitchen pantry or refrigerator. You will be surprised at what you have in your home that you can use for this. Ever heard of Sugar scrubs? You can even use milk! Using milk will add enzymes to your skin and leave your skin extra soft and smooth. (Not suggested if you are allergic to milk or lactose intolerant.) Some people even use baking soda to exfoliate.
Next, how often are you planning on using this scrub? Do you want a daily scrub or one that is for once a week usage? Generally with scrubs that are only meant for once a week use, they are going to be a lot stronger so stay away from those if you have really sensitive skin. Go for one that says "daily" use (even though that doesn't necessarily mean you use it daily) because it is going to be more gentle for your skin.

Now if you don't want to buy a facial scrub, maybe invest in a facial brush! This is definitely a good replacement. With a facial scrub you can just wet your face, put your facial cleanser on the brush, then go over your face with the brush, rinse, pat dry, and you're good to go! Don't want to buy a brush? Then do the same technique with a good facial wash cloth. Word to the wise, don't use the same wash cloth that you use to wash the rest of your body with...really? Think about all the germs that you are putting from the rest of your body onto your face and what type of bacteria that can be left on your face from this wash cloth. Remember, your skin is more sensitive than the rest of your body.

So bury that dead skin and say hello to the new rejuvenated you.... Happy Scrubbing!!! *muah*
